Working with UNICEF in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Many of you ask us about the procedure for working for UNICEF in the DRC. In this article you’ll find out all the information you need to apply and join our team.

  •  What kind of jobs are posted by UNICEF in the DRC?

You can apply for two types of jobs:
– International jobs (Fixed-Term and Temporary-Appointment) – for candidates of all nationalities outside the DRC
– National jobs (Fixed-Term and Temporary-Appointment) – reserved for DRC nationals

  • Where can I find the listings?

We post all our open positions online on the following websites:

  • How can I apply?

– International jobs (Fixed-Term)
Online via the UNICEF website (www.unicef.org)
– International jobs (Temporary-Appointment) and national jobs (FT and TA)
Please bring your application in person to your closest UNICEF office, or send it to [email protected]

  • What should my application include?

To be considered your application pack must include the following documents:
– A covering letter
– An up-to-date CV
– A completed and signed P11 form (you can find this form online at www.unicef.org)
– Copies of your qualifications and references

  • What are the eligibility requirements?

The exact eligibility requirements differ according to post. For your application to be eligible for consideration you will need:
– Relevant qualifications
– Sufficient relevant sector experience
– Experience working within the UN system is a plus
– Knowledge of English

  • Can I send a spontaneous application?

Yes, UNICEF does accept spontaneous applications; they are saved in our applications databases and classed according to skills. Spontaneous applications (including a covering letter and p11 form) can be sent by email to: [email protected]

  • Do you take on interns?

UNICEF offers talented students the chance to gain professional experience and an insight into our work. Internships last for 6 to 16 weeks and are are generally not remunerated. Interns therefore are required to finance their travel, accommodation and living expenses for the duration of the internship.

To benefit from an internship at UNICEF candidates should meet the following requirements:
– Be enrolled in a university and have already completed a minimum of two years of university study
– Master at least one of UNICEF’s working languages and speak fluent french
– Have an excellent proven academic history

Evy Diakiese Mpolo est Assistante Principale aux Ressources Humaines au Bureau de l’Unicef Kinshasa. Elle est économiste de formation et travaille au service des enfants de la RDC depuis 6 ans.

Evy Diakiese Mpolo is a senior Human Resources assistant in the UNICEF office in Kinshasa. She is an economist by training and has worked for the children of the DRC for 6 years.

      Thanks for your interest in UNICEF in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in contributing to the realization of the rights of children in the country.

      UNICEF hires highly committed and skilled professionals in the areas of Health; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene; Nutrition; Education; Child Protection and Emergency response.
      There are also positions in support to these programmes, such as in COmmunication; Logistics; Human Resources and Administration.
