Fighting child mortality with family kits

child mortality in DRCVIDEO – Despite advances the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to face high levels of child and maternal mortality, respectively 104 per thousand live births and 846 per 100 000 live births.

To address this situation, the government launched in 2013-2014 with the support of UNICEF an ambitious programme to accelerate the reduction of the child and maternal mortality. The programme includes the distribution of family kits among the households containing essential medicines to fight the major child killers and a voucher giving access to the local health centre at reduced cost.
