Yes to Equity

In this world we all need to have a chance in life, it is what equity teaches us.

IMG_0157My name is Fiston Kabongo, I am a Young Reporter from Matadi in Bas-Congo and I am 13 years old. I and several children from the different provinces of the DRC participated in a forum for the 26th anniversary of the Convention on Children’s Rights on the theme of Equity and the Rights of the Child.

We learned that fairness is not to give the same to everyone but that to each is given what he IMG_0092needs to succeed in life. Specialists explained to us the results of the Demographic and Health Surveys and of the Multiple Overlapping Deprivation Analysis ( NMODA) which analyses child poverty with an equity and deprivation focus. One of the things we learned was that there was a large disparity in the rights that are guaranteed to children in rural and urban areas. We also noticed that efforts have been made so that more children in the DRC have access to school. In our forum we didn’t only talk about education but also about health, nutrition, protection equity, child rights and the property of the other.

IMG_0121I thank UNICEF for having involved children from all provinces of the DRC c in this forum and I hope that soon we will be able to serve on committees and children’s parliaments.
